Frequently asked questions
Are your services covered by My extended health Benefits ?
As a Registered Social Worker in British Columbia, individual sessions, including wellness walks, may be covered by your extended health care plan. I will provide information related to my registration on all receipts to support your submission for reimbursement. It is always best to confirm this prior to engaging with any helping professional. Consulting, training, and other services are not covered.
How Do I consent to services?
You will be asked to review some brief intake documents that will outline everything you need to know about accessing support through Suunta Wellness. These will be provided to you once we have had an initial consultation.
I’m Nervous about reaching out. Can we chat before I commit to working with you?
Absolutely! One of the biggest parts of this work you are embarking on is doing it with someone you feel good about. When you reach out, we can set up a free 15 minute virtual or phone consultation to explore if this may be the right fit for your needs at this time. This is usually enough time to allow your instincts to tell you if it is a good fit. Even after your consent to services, you are never obligated to continue working with me (or any social worker/therapist/counsellor!). If you feel that you are not receiving the support you need, I would encourage you to speak to me about that and we can decide if it is something that can be overcome or if you would prefer to be referred elsewhere.
How do you ensure privacy and confidentiality?
As a member in good standing of the BC College of Social Workers, I am bound by the standards and practices that guide social work practice in this province. The specifics of these standards are outlined in the intake and consent package and will be reviewed with you when we begin our professional relationship.
What are the ethics and standards that Guide your work ?
Registered Social Workers are governed by the BC College of Social Workers (BCCSW). The code of ethics and standards of practice outlined by the BCCSW here provide the framework and guidelines for my practice. You can expect confidentiality, honesty, and a strength-based approach.
What will our work together look like ?
That entirely depends on your reasons for reaching out! If you are reaching out for individual support, we will be guided in our work together by your need and goals for what you would like to achieve. If you are reaching out as part of an organization, a customized proposal for services, including things like training, individual support, policy review, organizational review and recommendations, will be created. Reach out for a consultation to learn more.
